SysMLv1: Associative BDDs are best used as staging diagrams for you the modeller (and SysML-fluent readers). IBDs usually make better presentations diagrams for a wider audience of general engineers and other stakeholders.

Experience shows that while software engineers and SysML-fluent users who are fluent with Association notations, non-experts struggle with it. Besides, a BDD only shows what MAY be connected up, not what IS connected up in a specific context.

The notation in an IBD is far more intuitive, and nearly any engineer or scientist can read a basic IBD. Consider making them your primary presentation format.
